* Your kid has a dirty face - spit on a kleenex and wipe it off.
* Your kid has bed head - spit on your fingers and plaster it down.
* Your kid has salted caramel chocolate truffle on his cheek - LICK IT OFF!
(Moms learn their best hacks from observing mama cats)
* Skinned knees at the park - uh...have the dog lick it?!
* You have to leave for a baseball game and forgot to throw the uniforms in the dryer - hang it out the car window and drive to the game. (a.k.a. Drive-n-Dry)
* Forgot to buy bread - the kids get PBJ on taco shells.
* No one will eat the brown bananas - Banana Bread!
* Kids played in the mud - Back Yard Hose Shower!
* Your kids are being obnoxious in a store - turn around and say sternly & loudly (so anyone observing will hear), "I don't know who you children are, but if you don't stop following me I going to TELL the manager!"
*Company coming on short notice - shove all laundry in dryer, all dishes in oven, everything else in closets spray Lysol around the house and order pizza.
*Most everything else will require duct tape or WD-40.
This is what I know, 24 hours in a day are never enough - so it is necessary to take a few short cuts in life. The trick is deciding what to cut short. I've learned never to cut short my family and dear friends. Never cut short bedtime stories and hugs. Never cut short the amount of times you tell someone you love them. And never, never, never cut short on dessert (or... the sweet things in life that make you smile and give you joy.) So next time you see me flying down the back roads with a shirt flying from the window, just know I'm taking the short cut to the really important things!
I've never known you to be so shy as to drive down the back roads to hide a drying shirt from anyone. You must have been thinking the back road was a shortcut to somewhere... maybe Starbucks?

ReplyDeleteActually Dan, you were the one who told me about the back roads in and out of Live Oak! The are so much prettier than the highway so that makes them DESSERT...and they may get me to Starbucks a little quicker as well.
